Dear Explorers,
On May 10th 2025, Naer is shutting down and our voyage is over.
We've spent the last four years crafting a labour of love.
Starting at the tail end of the pandemic, we saw advances in mixed- and virtual reality that could break our ties to the physical office and make remote the new normal. Instead of dull office spaces, we would bring people to a place tailored for creative collaboration and connection. Naer.
We knew working in XR would be hard, and that the learning curve and distribution of the technology were our biggest hurdles.
Naturally, we threw our weight at every piece of friction we could find. We built the world's first Miro integration for XR. Users could plan their workshop on their computer, jump into Naer to collaborate, and see their work already documented as soon as they took their headsets off. We built a secure automated login system. No more taking your headset on and off to look up passwords. We built gesture detection, so flicking your wrist was enough to move sticky notes around the room. The list goes on and on. It was great fun.
Distribution was harder. Despite an exclusive spot as a launch partner for the Meta Quest 3, we didn't manage to get the ball rolling. The convenience of digital meetings is the availability of people. Without broader adoption of XR across companies, making Naer the habitual choice was close to impossible. Even within teams, retention faltered with depleted batteries, untimely firmware updates and the inability to use XR while on the go.
And so we say goodbye. With great appreciation to everyone who contributed to Naer with their time and energy. While we had hoped for a different ending, we couldn't have asked for a better journey.

Naer [næ:r] is Norwegian for being close, both in relationships and distance.
We hope we brought you closer.
